Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, non-invasive technique that works through the body’s lymphatic system to activate the body fluid circulation and stimulate the functioning of the immune system. The result of these actions can include reductions in edemas, detoxification of the body, regeneration of tissue as well as many other benefits. MLD is also used for the treatment of lymphedema, an accumulation of fluid that can occur after lymph nodes are removed during surgery, most often a mastectomy for breast cancer. This condition can also occur in the legs or other parts of the body if lymph nodes are removed in the course of other types of surgery – for melanoma, colon, prostate or bladder cancer, for example – or are damaged by radiation treatment, infection or trauma.
